This is an important policy for you to read. Although we have included it on our website, the principles apply to all financial services websites that you use.
'Phishing’ is the collection of personal information over the internet by third parties who pretend to be a person or company that they are not. Such collection is illegal. This usually arises through either (a) asking for personal information to be sent back, or confirmed, or typed into an online form, or (b) giving official looking links to click on, which takes you to a fake web page that looks like the legitimate services provider. These may take the form of a threat (eg suspension of your account, cancellation of your insurance etc. unless you confirm your account details). This information could then be used for credit card fraud or bank fraud.
If you think that you have given information to a third party that you should not have done, please call us on 0330 131 9950 and also the police.
To be clear, we will:
- Never ask you to email us any personal information, such as payment/financial details or your address.
- Never ask you to tell us the password for your online account, unless we are setting it up for the first time if you are buying a policy through the call centre.
- Never send you programs to install on your computer.
- Never ask you to tell us the PIN of any card that you are using for payment
- Always use the proper online security protocols for collecting information from you.
If you are in any doubt about an email or even a call, forward the email to us, or even hang up, wait for five minutes, and call us back to check that it was an official Emerald call. We will not mind; far from it. In fact your behaviour is reasonable and sensible.
